The Football Coaching Podcast with Joe Daniel
The Football Coaching Podcast with Joe Daniel
The end of the game of football can be intense! The crowd, the officials, the clock… they all add extra pressure to an already high pressure game. If you keep finding yourself on the losing end of close games, it’s likely that you, your coaches, and your players don’t understand the situation(s) they are in during crunch time.
On this episode, Joe and Daniel discuss the need to add situational football into your practice planning, what situations you should practice, and the need to mentally prepare your players.
• Have a Purpose for every practice
• Competitive Period (3rd & 7, 3rd & 2, :40 sec left need a score, :40 left need a stop, Special Teams hurry up)
• More than what situations you practice, because the list is infinite, you need to know how to practice situations and the players need to understand what situation they’re in
• When situations take your players out of the base scheme, you better go over that
• Watch your previous film and find what situations you’ve struggled with
• The end of the game is a tough situation for any team. The pressure is HIGH. If you’re pretty constantly on the losing end, your team likely believes they’ll lose.
• Tough things happen to everyone, you have to get your team to understand they can work through the tough things.
• Mental toughness is built every day
• Our Defense is Too Undisciplined
• Our Special Teams Aren’t Special
• My Players Won’t Buy In to the System
