The Football Coaching Podcast with Joe Daniel
Not all QB Alignments are made the same. Some allow you to do more in the run game, while others help your High School Quarterback see the field better for passing. The option game is different in each. So which is right for you?
On this episode Joe and Daniel are discussing the benefits of each QB alignment, what they lack, and how you can use each of them in your current offense to show a different picture.
• There are 3 different alignments that you can use with your QB
• Under Center
• Pistol
• Gun
• Each alignment brings something different to the game
• Under center is great for perfectly timing your routes. Pass routes commonly have step counts/depths that pair with 3-7 step drops from QB Under Center
• Pistol Alignment gives limited read time for the QB, but does get him away from the Defensive Line. You can still get a great downhill run from this position
• The Gun, or shotgun, allows for maximum reading in the RPO/RRO game.
• You can run the same formations you already have installed, just tag them with different QB alignments to get the advantage you need for that play
• You may have to practice your run angles and pass drops from this alignment.
