We Cant Stop Dual-Threat QBs

Building out your Run Plays for your system doesn’t have to be complicated. You get a few base plays, you make them look as similar as possible, you add some wrinkles… bingo, bango, bongo, your offensive run game is born.

In this episode Joe Daniel and Daniel Chamberlain discuss what it takes to build out your run game, keeping the blocking simple for the linemen, designing your core to minimize break points, and adjusting that core to attack any defense.

Blocking is the Foundation

  • We have to create a “comfort” for the offensive line to perform
  • Your blocking scheme needs to be extremely detailed
  • Recycle blocking schemes whenever you can, wherever you can

Design Your Core Run Plays

  • You have to build your plays to ensure the timing of the run is there
  • Start from a point of “What is Best” for each play to be successful
  • Minimize the “Break Points” in your scheme

Adjust Core Run Plays to Attack any Defense

  • How can I get more from this play for the least amount of effort/change
  • Using tags to manipulate the peripherals of a play, but leave the core alone
  • Alignment is the easiest thing to change, to allow you to gain leverage, numbers, and manipulate space
