It’s week 8, your playoff chances are on the line. Your star Running Back is deemed ineligible because he let his grades slip. What do you do? Well, hopefully you put some plans into action long before this happened.
On this episode Joe and Daniel discuss the ways you can fill holes in your depth chart well before they happen. They talk causes for players to miss time, why you need a plan in place, and what those plans may look like.
• There are many reasons and ways that you can lose a player on your depth chart
• On the field actions can cause you to lose a player:
• Injuries
• Ejection
• Bad evaluation
• Three High shell that can rotate to common Cover 1, Cover 3, or Cover 4 coverages
• Grades
• Ineligibility
• Parent issues
• Changing your scheme can alter who you need on the field at any given time
• There isn’t time during a game to try and solve problems retroactively
• Things don’t always work the way you think they will, the other guys game plan too
• Sometimes the results just aren’t there for a player
• Take extra jerseys to the sideline. You may find your TE is the next up in the rotation for Offensive Line play
• Cross-train your players every week. Have a period of practice that lets people play another position
• Stop wasting reps on players who won’t touch the field.
• Use your developmental teams. JV, Freshman, and JH games are imperative for adding depth to your team
• For most of us, we have to play the Best 11 kids we’ve got. This episode talks all about the Best 11 mentality.
• Injuries may be the biggest cause of a depth chart mix up. This episode tells you how to handle key injuries.
