College Football 25 – Coach Edition | FBCP S16E19

The Football Coaching Podcast with Joe Daniel

Changing Defensive Schemes w/ Antonio Graham

College Football 25 is taking the world by storm in 2024! After 11 years of waiting, the “boys are back in town.” We’re all playing just as much as you… except for when we’re in practice of course.

On this episode Joe and Daniel are joined by friend of the show, and YouTube gaming sensation, Ron McKie to talk about the new game, the pros and cons, and how we can use the game to teach football.

What are your favorite parts of College Football 25?

• Ron McKie, at the time, was enjoying College Ultimate Team, or CUT.
• Daniel and Joe are both playing Dynasty modes and getting refamiliarized with the game.
• Ron is the only one playing online games.

What are your complaints with College Football 25 so far?

• The inability to use whatever playbook you want online. The Veer and Shoot is a fan favorite, and yet is limited to a few teams.
• The inability to change RPO routes pre-snap. Simple signals can tell a receiver to change to a different RPO even in High School, yet college players can’t?
• Tackling on Defense is still atrocious, even after the update.

How realistic is the game, and how can we use it to teach/coach football?

• Most of the game is very realistic, and can almost be considered a sim.
• The counter plays are more realistic than power, and zone seems to follow some type of realistic logic in blocking rules.
• The game makes a great platform for teaching football. Coverages, run schemes, option routes, special teams… you name it, you can teach it with College Football 25.
