Subject: Coaching advice for weirdos only
Date: October 22, 2026

A while back on one of our JDFB Chalk Talks, an exclusive member-only Q&A, I heard a great question.

Alex, who was in his second season with JDFB Coaching Systems asked this…

“What are common coaching beliefs that you don’t believe?”

Edited slightly but the point is there.

What makes me weird?

I could be in a room full of coaches listening to some college guru. Every other coach is nodding and eating it up…

…while I’m wondering “am I the idiot!?”

Spoiler alert, I’m not.

My answer to Alex’s question centers on the big coaching arguments I always fight against. They fall into two categories…

1. Turning a simple idea into a complex mess. This almost always comes down to the 80/20 principle.
2. Fighting against logic because “the way we’ve always done it.” The words alone make me shudder.

Simple systems. 90 minute practices. Drilling the 1-on-1 game.

ASKA. Levers. Umbrella.

Coach Simple. Play Fast. Win.

Pull levers for constant improvement. Solve problems. Make adjustments. Get better.

I don’t think anything I teach at JDFB Coaching Systems is weird. Nor is it revolutionary.

It all makes sense, though. It all fits within the system. It’s all been proven on the field.

Many of the ideas were stolen. Then tested, tweaked, and adapted to fit my philosophy.

But they are all proven. By thousands of coaches over the last 17 years.

You can get in on the next Q&A call Monday night. Plus the complete coaching systems with all my easy-to-understand, proven-to-work, weirdness. If being weird means winning games, I’m here for it. Get started with the October Special Offer for JDFB Gold now:
