Subject: Does your practice have a happy ending?
Date: September 22, 2026

It’s the climax.

No this isn’t one of those emails…

It’s about your football practices. Do they end with you feeling… uh, well… satisfied?

Or do you feel unfulfilled at the end? It just felt so meaningless.

Most practices end with an 11-on-11 team session. The closest you get to playing the game, before game day.

That session is the end of a journey.

Destroying the One Ring in Mount Doom. Defeating Voldemort. Blowing up the Death Star (again).

You start each practice with a Focus. Every position has one.

Then you build the practice plan. Start from the 1-on-1 game, rogress to group drills. And finally…

Team Session.

It all comes together. Your players have mastered the critical skill they must execute on Game Day if you’re going to win this week.

Celebration ensues. Ewoks and Hobbits dance.

In this week’s episode of The Football Coaching Podcast, we talk about how to plan your best 11-on-11 Team Session yet:

Does your practice end with a celebration?

Did you slay the dragon? Or just waste two hours of everyone’s life today?

Every practice is a journey. It has a start, and an end. Containers.

You need to start right to finish right. Start with a focus. Build the plan.
Execute the plan.

No focus? No plan? No celebration.

The solution to pointless practice is a better plan. Better focus. Check out that podcast - and the entire Practice Planning series from Season 21 of The Football Coaching Podcast to get the job done right.

Need help finding your focus? I have a system for that in my Game Film Master Class. It’s only open for enrollment for one more week:
