Subject: Fix Your Offense This Week

Yesterday, I shared the levers we pull first on defense for many of our JDFB Platinum clients. Those coaches send us film through our Game Film Analysis survey to get eyes from the outside.

It’s hard to see the picture when you’re in the frame. Our expert coaches see things you might miss, or simply validate your thinking to give you confidence to pull those levers.

Here’s the biggest quick fix adjustments for each offensive position:

Offensive Line: Footwork. Specifically the first two steps. It’s not about just knowing who to block. You need to know how to get there. We break down the footwork first.

Running Backs: Alignment. Timing is everything in the run game. Running backs who line up too deep, or too far from the Quarterback, take too long to get to the hole. You see that big hole open, then it closes? It’s not great defense. It’s a timing failure by the offense.

Wide Receivers: Alignment. Every route requires you to adjust the alignment. Align too tight for a slant, you run out of the window too fast. Align too wide for a fade? Quarterback has nowhere to lay the football.

Quarterbacks: Timing. Specifically, unless he’s more advanced than most… see a hitch, throw a hitch. Pre-snap reads can turn an average quarterback into a stud. Start by taking the easy ones.

Coaching: More than anything, on the offense we look at the play calling. Specifically, coaches trying to do too many things on offense. Get great at something, and build on it.

Offense is fun. There are so many levers to pull. But so many things that are easily overlooked.
